Holiday Gift Guide for Coffee People
The holidays are coming, and someone on your list drinks too much coffee. Good. Coffee people are easy to shop for once you know what matters. Here are our recommendations at every price point.
Under $25
- A bag of single-origin coffee. This is the simplest and most appreciated gift. Pick something they would not buy for themselves. An Ethiopian natural or a Kenyan AA from our current lineup is a safe bet. If you are not sure what they like, our house blend is universally enjoyable.
- A coffee scale. The Timemore Black Mirror Nano is around $25 and weighs accurately to 0.1 grams. If the person you are shopping for is still measuring coffee with a scoop, this will change their mornings.
$25 to $75
- A Hario V60 starter kit. Comes with the dripper, a server, filters, and a scoop. About $35 to $45 depending on the material. Pair it with a bag of washed Ethiopian coffee and you have given someone the tools to make the cleanest cup of their life.
- A Fellow Atmos vacuum canister. Around $40. Genuinely keeps coffee fresher longer by removing air from the container. Functional and good-looking on a counter.
- A French press from Bodum. The Chambord model is about $40 and is the standard for a reason. Durable, classic design, makes excellent coffee. See our French press guide for why we love this method.
- A three-bag sampler from us. We offer a rotating sampler of three 200-gram bags. Different origins, different processes. It is a tasting experience in a box.
$75 to $200
- A Comandante hand grinder. Around $180 to $200 depending on the finish. This is the best hand grinder available. It produces uniform particles across every grind setting, from espresso to French press. Heavy, beautifully built, and will last a decade.
- A Timemore C3 hand grinder. About $75. Not as refined as the Comandante, but an outstanding grinder for the price. Great for pour-over and French press.
- A Fellow Stagg EKG kettle. Around $150. Temperature control, hold function, and a precision spout that makes pour-over technique much easier. It is also the most attractive kettle you will ever own.
Over $200
- A Baratza Encore ESP electric grinder. About $200. Consistent, reliable, and designed specifically for espresso and filter. The default recommendation for anyone upgrading from a blade grinder.
- A subscription. We offer a monthly subscription where we send our current favourite single origin or seasonal blend. Three months, six months, or twelve months. It is the gift that literally keeps showing up at their door.
The best coffee gift is one that meets the person where they are. If they drink drip coffee from a Mr. Coffee, a bag of great beans is more impactful than a $200 grinder they will not know how to use. If they are already deep into the hobby, a quality grinder or kettle upgrade is the way to go.
Happy holidays from the Northern Front team.
